What you can edit

Name

The subscription name. This is what the customer sees in payment notification emails sent by Rebill.

Updating the name changes how future payments appear in customer notifications.

Description

Internal description to help you identify the subscription.

State

Change the subscription state:

  • Active — Resume billing on the configured schedule

  • Paused — Stop billing temporarily

  • Canceled — End the subscription permanently

See Subscription states for details on each state.

Price

Update the subscription amount. The new price applies to the next billing cycle.

Example:

  • Current price: MX$1,000/month

  • You change it to: MX$1,500/month

  • Next charge: MX$1,500 (on the next billing date)

Next charge date

Set when the next payment will be processed. Useful when:

  • Reactivating a paused subscription

  • Adjusting billing schedule for a specific customer

  • Moving a charge to avoid holidays or weekends

Payment method (card)

Change which card to charge for future payments.

Rebill stores all cards a customer has used for payments. You can select which one to use for the subscription going forward.

When to use this:

  • Customer's card expired and they provided a new one

  • Customer wants to switch to a different card they've used before

Coupon

Apply a discount coupon to the subscription to retain the customer or offer loyalty pricing.

When to use this:

  • Customer requested to cancel and you want to offer a discount to keep them

  • Rewarding long-term customers

  • Promotional pricing for specific users

The coupon discount applies based on its configuration (first payment only, specific number of cycles, or all payments indefinitely).

See How to accept coupons for details on coupon behavior.

Billing frequency

Change how often the subscription charges:

  • Monthly

  • Quarterly

  • Yearly

  • Custom intervals

The new frequency applies starting from the next billing cycle.

Billing day

Set a specific day of the month when the subscription should always charge (e.g., always charge on the 15th of each month).

This overrides the original subscription start date and aligns all future charges to the configured day.

Automatic renewal

Choose how the subscription continues:

Automatic renewal ON (default): The subscription charges indefinitely every billing cycle until you cancel it or the customer's payment method fails.

Automatic renewal OFF: Set a fixed number of billing cycles. After completing all cycles, the subscription changes to Finished automatically.

Example:

  • Billing frequency: Monthly

  • Automatic renewal: OFF

  • Number of cycles: 6

  • Result: The subscription charges 6 times (6 months), then ends automatically

Number of cycles (when automatic renewal is OFF)

Specify how many billing cycles to charge before the subscription finishes.

You can edit this number at any time to extend or reduce the remaining cycles.

When changes apply

Immediate effect:

  • State changes (Active, Paused, Canceled)

  • Next charge date

  • Payment method

Next billing cycle:

  • Price changes

  • Billing frequency changes

  • Billing day changes

  • Coupon application

Can you edit canceled subscriptions?

No. Once a subscription is canceled, you cannot reactivate it or edit its configuration.

If the customer wants to subscribe again, create a new subscription.

Can you edit finished subscriptions?

No. Subscriptions that reached their configured number of cycles and finished cannot be edited.

If the customer wants to continue, create a new subscription.
