Installment options and supported banks in Mexico

Last updated: March 10, 2026

When processing payments in Mexico through Rebill, you can offer your customers the option to pay in installments (Meses Sin Intereses - MSI). This article shows which banks and card issuers support installment payments through Rebill.

What are Meses Sin Intereses (MSI)?

Meses Sin Intereses (Interest-Free Installments) is a payment option in Mexico that allows customers to split a purchase into monthly payments without paying interest using their credit card.

How it works:

  • Customer makes a purchase with a credit card and selects installment option (3, 6, 9, 12, or 18 months)

  • Total amount is divided into equal monthly payments

  • Customer pays no interest, the interest is carried by the merchant

  • You (the merchant) receive the full payment upfront (after settlement period)

Important: MSI only works with credit cards. Debit cards do not support installment payments.

Important notes

Credit card requirement: MSI only works with credit cards. Debit cards cannot be used for installment payments.

Installment configuration: Merchants can configure which installment options to offer customers at the account level and per payment link. See [separate article on configuring installments] for details.

Customer eligibility: Even if you offer installments, the final availability depends on:

  • Customer using a credit card (not debit)

  • Customer's card issuer supporting MSI

  • Customer's credit limit and account status

  • Card issuer's policies

If a customer's card doesn't support the selected installment option, the payment will be declined or the customer will need to select a different card or payment method.

What customers see

When you enable installments in a payment link or checkout, customers with eligible credit cards will see the installment options you configured (for example: 1 payment, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months).

Customers can select their preferred installment option before completing the payment.
